Microsoft announces that Windows 10 has hit RTM (Release To Manufacturing). This means that Windows 10 has been finalized. Its build number is 10240.

There is no news that it will hit Insiders later, or if Microsoft will focus on the launch event instead.

Update: Windows Insiders can upgrade their Windows 10 to it.

post-1241-0-74139100-1436980191_thumb.jp

Manufactures will start having Windows 10, and be ready to start preparing their computers with Windows 10 to try and make it in time available in retail stores July 29.

Microsoft will continue to work on Windows 10 after its release, and day 1 updates might come (as usual) if manufactures discovered issues in their deployment and final testing, and Windows Insider will continue to get early updates to test them before mass distribution, and newer build to the path of Windows 10.1 with new feature and changes. Microsoft will continue its feedback programs for Insiders.

As for Edge web browser. As previously mentioned by Microsoft, it won't be complete on day 1, and to expect updates via the Windows App Store for new features, improvements, and fixes during Windows 10 release, including extensions support.

Finally. I get to upgrade to 64 bit. No more 32 bit copy of windows 7. This will be amazing.

My body is ready.

Side note, the time between RTM and release isn't actually that bad. It says in the article Microsoft has had this as RTM since Sunday (7/12/2015) so that's 2 weeks and 3 days. Certainly not as much as in the past but still not bad considering OEMs have had access to near-RTM builds for quite a while...

hits RTM but it's not done ..  <_<

An OS is never done... Hell, you could argue no software project is ever complete.

not refering to that, I'm refering to the fact MS is shipping RTM build with incomplete Internet Explorer EDGE browser - having worked with it, it's spartan (pun intended  )

Can your pc support 64 bit?

Yeah, Dell just decides to ship their lower-end PCs with 32 bit software for some reason even though it has a 64 bit CPU.

Oh, Dell.

Welp, what can you expect from the company who owns alienware.....

hows that gonna work tho i don't think you can go from 32 to 64 through an update

your probbly gonna get wind 10 32bit

or you need to do a clean install of 10 64 bit and somehow activate it with your 32 bit key

unless ms said something that i don't know.

From what I've heard, if you have a 32 bit copy of windows and you have a 64 bit computer, you can choose to upgrade to 64 bit if you wish.

If there will be an ISO download of Windows 10 (we will know soon enough), then yes, you can do a clean install of Windows 10 64-bit (there is no upgrade path from 32 to 64-bit).

Well the same thing applies to browsers. Yeah its missing extensions but that is pretty much confirmed coming within 3 months of release.

For the vast majority of users extensions are not part of the core browsing experience, therefore it was okay to delay that feature to a later date.

Even for me the only extension I use is LastPass so I will continue to use Firefox until Edge has extension support. Which isn't a big deal to me really. That's just the way she goes.

I reached out to LastPass on Twitter and they confirmed they will be making an extension for Edge as soon as possible. :D

You need to do a clean install to switch to 64-bit, so you'll need a 64-bit ISO. The upgrade you get through Windows Update will be 32-bit only.

I actually plan on doing a clean install anyway (my computer could honestly use one, i've had it for that long) so that works.
