Hey guys !

So I've recently (3 months ago) built a gaming PC souly for playing games on, no video editing, no production stuff blah blah anyway

I currently have a gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce card and am looking to buy a second one for SLI, but I'm not sure 750 watts is enough,

Do I upgrade my power supply or is that enough for SLI ?

THANKS

Nah you need an AX1500i and to underclock your 970 a bit so it has enough juice....jk

You are good with a GOOD 750W PSU. infact it's got enough juice for 2 way 970's :). maybe even 3 way at a stretch?

ehhhh... not the best but it could work. I have yet to see anyone's pc die from a CX.

Theres 744 watts on the 12V rail so I think he's fine.

I think a 970 has 200 watts max under load? (less actually, 177 or so)

So that times 2  - 400 plus an average intel cpu let's round that up to 100W = 500. + 100 for drives is 600.

OP is DEFINITELY good with his PSU. And CX PSU's are totally fine.

I put CX PSU's in 10 builds of friends so far and my own.

When one explodes I will tell you.

A friend of mine was building a PC and for some reason insisted on getting a Corsair CX750, and refused to go against it, god knows why.

Original unit that was installed, molex and SATA power didn't work. In-store exchange for a new one.

Second unit wouldn't turn on at all. DOA. Store would not exchange a second time and forced us to RMA through Corsair, which was a lengthy process and cost $13 in shipping.

Third unit worked fine until stress testing the PC then shut off and wouldn't turn on again. For some reason paper clip jumping worked, but it wouldn't work when in the PC.

This was a system with an 8320 and a GTX 760, which a CX750 is more then enough for. Not to mention that the CX is a different (and better) CWT platform then the other CX. It's actually more of a GS while the rest of the CX are inferior to the 750W model.

After a back-and-forth fight between the store and Corsair they wouldn't give us our money back but would let us exchange for something other then a CX. Exchanged it for an EVGA 750B2, and have absolutely zero issues ever since. I tried to prefer other in the past but didn't mind CX, however after this I don't even want to have anything to do with them.

If one of them explodes you don't have to let me know, not much of surprising news anyways.

I was also reading about a guy who on tomshardware or  OC3D had put 4 of them in friends builds and 3 of them failed and pulled out the 4th one incase.

but again could be positional, some people seem to get on fine with CX units, other people have a fireworks fest with them.

Thing is, i had a CX500 for 3 years.

I gave it to a friend,  who is doing fine with it now for a year.

I have this CX600 for a year, still no problems. Have a CX500 in another friend's build which is going 4 years strong now too, another 500 one for a different friend, 1 and a half years, another 600 one for another friend, a year. Another 750 one for a different friend, 9  months. I missed some, but here the issues seem non-existent.

I think the power plugs have to do with it and the ambient temps in our countries.,

Actually forgive me if im wrong but wasn't there 2 CX's? one's built by seasonic to start with then corsair went to CWT too?, might explain why there is a CX lottery going on? O_o.

Also i live up scotland and it doesn't get paticuarly hot (My first CX failed around autumn-winter 13?, and my 2nd CX failed around march i believe last year) One had my old CIT case and the other had my Z11+ )

Might be :x

Maybe in Europe they are fine but in the US they are failing left and right?

If you look at the Dutch 'PC Part Picker' like website, they have decent ratings, really.http://tweakers.net/categorie/664/voedingen/producten/#filter:q1ZKKkrMS_FMKVayijaytIjVUSpITE8NzqxKVbIyNQDyijKTU30z85SsgJzigtRkt8ycktQioPJqJUMjS2MQXZaYA9StZGxhZqoUW1tbCwA

Not one review in there which has reports of exploding psu's.

The only Seasonic CX is the CX400, so that's pretty easily identifiable.
