You would be able to play most if not all games maxed at 1080p. any higher resolution (i.e. 4k) could cause you to lower the settings a little...

Too good.

But I think you can save more money by going with 1150 socket, like going with i5-4690K or i7-4790K.

With the saved money you can go with much better GPU.

Get an I5 4690K if just gaming, or an I7 4790K if rendering etc. Also get a 980Ti over the 970.

1 strong graphics card is always better than having more than one. 2 980s would have better performance than a 980ti, but they have less VRAM. If you are playing at 1080p or 1440p, the 980Ti is cheaper and much better. At 4K, the 980Ti has more VRAM that might be used.

980ti>970 sli

970 SLI is faster by around 10-15%, but ease of access for dumb people the 980 ti is definitely a better buy.

Any resolution that doesn't use over 4GB, 980 SLI will smash the hell out of a 980 ti, by BIG margins too.

X99 is a complete and utter WASTE for gaming

go Z97 m8

I wouldn't say it's a complete and utter waste. For enthusiast-grade gaming, it's actually decent value. The 5820K alone is $50 more expensive than a 4790K, which is incredibly impressive given that it has 50% more cores. The additional cost of X99 comes from the motherboards and the DDR4 RAM. Fortunately, the cost of both of those continues to trend ever downwards.

X99 is an incredible platform, and for people with the budget, I can fully recommend it.

That said, OP, you could potentially save on motherboard/CPU/RAM and invest in even better GPUs (or monitors, or peripherals, or whatever else). It's up to you. You may also want to look into, say, a single GTX 980 Ti as also previously stated. Dual-GPU configs have a lot of extra headaches involved. Regardless, with that kind of a budget, you're going to be able to assemble one heck of a rig.

One recommendation I'll make is to take a look at your monitor. If you're not running 120/144 Hz and/or 1440p or higher, than maybe jump down to Z97 and use some of the savings towards a better display. Paring dual GTX 970s with 1080p60 means that you'd be greatly underutilising their potential!

guys this is not just gaming thats why it an i7

You can get i7-4790K instead, if you need more cores like for multitasking or doing content creation. Fine, you can go with 5820K, the extra cores can help.

But if you don't multitask a lot, just doing video editing, i7-4790K is enough already.

Then you can get better GPU (with the saved money).

Cpu is too much. A 4690k or 4790k is enough. And dual 390 will yield much better highrez performance.

Then 5820k and a good single card,

980 ti, 390x, 970, fury etc etc

Although your ''rendering" might not be very intensive.

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.
