why couldn't i accept $2500 from my mom for a new pc?

i just finished school got my total at 90.5% and i kept bothering my mom that $2500 that she promised me to give, if i pass the 12th grade

 

so yesterday she came to me and handed me $2500 and i just couldnt take it even though i gave her 1000$ to keep it save with her thats if i ever need it, but i just couldnt accept my 1000 dollars that i gave her 

 

i just dont know why but i just feel so guilty taking money from her even though its considered a graduation gift

 

what should i do should i take the money? i heard shes doing very bad at the stock market...

 

if it was from my dad then id have no problem but he doesnt wanna give me anything

 

and btw i got a job, there shipping me to the army in September for training for 9 months so i cant wait an entire year till i can game i wanna game now

 

btw if your wondering why i signed up for the army is because in my country everyone from ages 18-29 have to serve and i guess its a good thing having to protect my country and have new experiences

Get a good Laptop you will need It but wait till after basic.

some life advice from someone who went through graduation a few years ago, and subsequently joined the navy. 

 

  • take the grad money and put it in savings.  you're going into the army.  building a pc will be nice for a few months but when youre stationed in hawaii and hot chicks are everywhere but you have no money to do anything, its gonna fucking suck.  trust me. 
  • if shes not doing well don't accept it, just tell her you're willing to wait till she has money to spare
  • i understand you "wanna game now" but even on minimum wage you should be able to save plenty in a few months to build a low end rig to hold you over and just sell once you ship out
  • dont spend your time gaming, spend it working out, cause i played cs:s until the day before I shipped and I got my ass kicked in pt
  • wait till you get your first station to make big purchases.. a lot of times guys will buy shit when they arrive that they cant afford to bring and will sell it for cheap when they relocate.  this includes laptops, bikes, cars, just to name a few

My grandparents were willing to get me anything for a graduation gift when school ended a month ago, I mean I could have got a 4 titan X's and 5960X and they wouldn't bat an eye.

 

But I couldn't do it either they took me grad gift shopping, and all I decided to get was 6 new pairs of socks, 2 shorts and a pair of shoes from walmart, it don't feel right taking money from people for doing almost nothing.

Accept the gift but save it dont waste it, and add to it with money you earn from job

I feel the same when I buy a $2 game on steam with her credit card. It is almost nothing compared to the hundreds my sisters get out of her but I feel really bad for some reason

I feel the same when I buy a $2 game on steam with her credit card. It is almost nothing compared to the hundreds my sisters get out of her but I feel really bad for some reason

Money doesn't buy happiness.  If she is giving you the money, take it, put it in a saving account or with a low risk broker.  If she ever needs the money, give it back to her.  Considering you are contemplating taking it in the first place shows that you shouldn't.  If you even have to question it, then don't because you don't want to leave regretting that.

 

I'm more of a minimalistic kind of person, and think others should be too.  As long as your bills are paid, food on the table, and a roof over your head you should be happy with what little you have.

 

Its the subtle things in life that are the best. 

 

 

ps. my graduation present was a $400 acer (6 years ago).  It was awesome. a quad core amd phenom, 8gb ram. no dedicated card.  But it was also before I knew much about pc lol.

If you want, get a less expensive computer, or just use the one you have now and either put the money into savings or maybe put it into some GICs.

I know how you feel. I graduated this year and my parents bought me a dell xps 13 as my present. It is a top of the line model and although I am extremely grateful for their generosity, I always feel incredibly guilty using it at all. I talked to both of my parents about it because it was way too much guilt for me to handle, I talked about returning it and putting it in a college fund for my little brother but they assured me that I should keep it and me doing well in college and making a life for myself is enough for them. All your parents want from us is to be successful, be ethical, hard-working and never succeed off of others misfortune. Take care of your parents when they can't themselves. At the end of the day money means nothing, love is everything.
