Writers block...

I've been at this script for 3 hours and I have 6 lines...

I'm writing a review for some software that was provided to me, but I can't manage to get the words on the doc....
What do you writers do to clear your mind?

Read something else to get inspiration, play a game for a couple of minutes or just walk around the house and get a glass of water to make it worth the time.

Just do something else to get your mind off it for a couple of minutes

Do something else completely unrelated and forget about what you are writing

 

Try writing a different section, start at the end, or perhaps try approach it in a different way

 

Delete the whole thing and start over

Okay real answer time.

 

I tend to set out in bullet point form, what I want to say, and what evidence I have to support my conclusions, and opinions. This lets you then mess around a bit with the order of presenting your advice. As you write a paragraph, you tick it off your bullet point list, or you move bits around.

 

This has the advantage that when you do walk away to clear your head, you don't forget important bits, but if you do change your mind, you just change, or add a bullet point, and all your notes are still good. I tend to either walk away a fair bit, or do more research as I set things out, so I need something to pull me back to points.

Well, when I was working on my book and got writers block, I'd simply get up, and walk away for a bit. I'd go out and run some errands or go see my gf at the time. Just things I was already very used to doing at that point, my daily routine to speak. It might have taken some times hours to get out of that writing slump, but it was effective for me at least.

 

Short answer. There's no real "get out of writer's block now!" answer. Everyone has different methods of getting rid of it. Try just, doing something else for a while.

Read or watch a review that fits the style or reaction you are writing. If it is one part of the writing that is giving you trouble start writing some other part (e.g. Game review, having trouble on game play mechanics do story or graphics.

 

Just remember that everyone have different methods and they might not work every time.

I'll try watching some other reviews, it might help me structure my review a little better.
