GPU for media PC? (Q6600).

Hemanse

Gonna upgrade my media pc a bit, currently running a Q6600 with a Asus P5N-E Sli board, the gpu i had which wasnt that good to begin with died a few months ago, so i just grabbed the nearest thing i had lying around, which was a 7800gt  :o yikes, gonna replace that with something else and if possible find some cheap second hand ddr2 sticks, what kinda gpu would be optimal for the Q6600, i mean there is no reason to go overboard, but i have no idea what kinda "old" gpu i could put in there. Right now i can watch videos and youtube just fine, but watching twitch for example, then it starts to struggle a bit.

Alright, im guessing a second hand gpu would also probably be ideal, if its possible to find somethign cheap here in Denmark, for some reason ddr2 isnt all that easy to find anymore and people want an absurb amount of money for it.

7770 should be fairly easy to get second hand, there were many of them.

HD 7770 or 7750, i believe some 7750's can be powered with just the PCIE slot so maybe the 7750 for me if it was just a media centre PC.

there is also options like the GTX 650 or R7 240/250, last time i remember there was a ton of 650's floating about.

Cool, thanks for all the suggestions, just remembered there is a hardware site here in Denmark with a section dedicated to buying and selling hardware, put up a post there, should be able to find something cheap :)

Sadly we got no ebay.dk, the closest is probably germany, we got something similar, but people there sadly think they can get outrageous prices for their old hardware or they probably just dont know any better :)

Almost just considering waiting until i buy a 9 series card for DX12, then i can use my 770 in that, but my guess is that a 770 is gonna be bottlenecked just a bit by a Q6600 ;)

It will, but less then you'd think. I ran my 970 with a QX9650 and it handled quite well.

Also for older RAM like DDR2, China is your best friend. Just got a pack of DDR1 for under $20.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Why make a media centre on such old and inefficient hardware, which will make lots of noise. Buy something like an ASRock N3150-ITX. Slap that in an Antec ISK110 with some memory and a 2.5" drive and you're done.

Its a PC i build a long time ago, works just fine, just missing a better gpu, the pc is located in another room so the noise is trivial and it really doesnt make that much noise in the first place. Its not really something i made to be a media pc, it just became it.

970 will be bottle necked by everything else.  Just for media streaming and light to medium gaming and a 750ti would be optimal.

The problem is, unless i found a cheap 750 ti, i might aswell get a 960, here in Denmark they for some reason almost cost the same.
