My first build I planned for months and priced out everything. I did feel the excitement wear off but I am pretty patient.

I remember playing oblivion and freaking out. It was a c2d e8300 with a 9600. Pretty mid range for then, but still tackled games for a few years.

Just FYI, you should probably spend the extra cash for the 970. I know the 960 has an awesome price point right now, but it will pay off later on if you have a 970. Or you can get a 290x or 780. They work really well too. And they're generally cheaper.

Take your time with the build and savor it. I find my self just craving the build experience and find excuses to pull my own systems apart, change things, etc.

 

I must be crazy, I hear a lot of people saying they hate doing cable management. I actually enjoy it. The end result pays off and it prolongs the build process.

The most frustrating thing about my current pc was putting in the IO shield. I had to go lay down and think about my life because I struggled to put it in for at least 20 minutes. I really don't know why it was so difficult this time around.

Sometimes that isn't as hard. A dell pc from like 2003 didnt even have the tab to unlock it.

source: didn't plug in CPU fan on my first build. My E5800 didn't like that.
