Start at the front, start reading, reach the back....unless it's Japanese, then reverse all directions.....

 

Seriously, read through once quickly, just to get an overview of what's happening, and how it ties together.

Read a second time, this time take notes. you'll have a better understanding than if you did it on the first read through.

Read a third time, going back to your notes as necessary, so you can see how later parts tied into the earlier theory.
