Would this be a bad idea?

So I'm planning on getting a Asus GTX 970 STRIX in a year or two, and my idea is to give my mom my Gigabyte 280 she has a i5-2390t. I'm want to know if the CPU will thermal throttle I don't think will. But I wan't to know what you think.

Why would a CPU start throttling when you put a GPU?

Better; what shitty cooler you have to make a T CPU throttle?

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

should be fine. If not, get a H60i cpu cooler or something similar.

eh no, why would the CPU thermal throtle by putting a grafics card on the mobo. that makes no sense so DERP, so what cooling do you have on that CPU to make it theremal throtle or did you mean bottle neck and then the awnser is probably no

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Why would you buy a GTX 970 in a year or two when it's off the shelves and there are better options for the same price? Intend to buy one used? But anyway there's no problem with that setup.

A GPU won't make a CPU thermal throttle, poor cooling on the CPU would make it thermal throttle.
