Can you overwrite your chipset?

A new chipset?

I really wouldn't... That's not possible, like downloading more ram.

 

I would run a quick virus scan just to make sure, but perhaps you could be talking about motherboard drivers? If so, yes, download the newest drivers for motherboard features. But you cannot download a chipset, as that is a physical component(s).

He probably got a chipset driver update in his windows updates.  It happens time to time, you just wouldn't know it because 99% of the time no one actually looks at the updates they are installing.

you can't override your chipset. All you can do is update your chipset drivers.

the chipset is self explanatory. it's a set of chips that controls things on your motherboard.

Appologies if that seems rude, or I'm implying you didn't read my comment, but I already eluded to that. :3  

Motherboard drivers 90% of the time == Chipset drivers.
