I'm setting up my first build, and I like the MSI Radeon r9 280x, but I was wondering what the nVidia equivalent would be. It seems to me that AMD GPUs get hotter, are less consistent, and are less energy efficient, and as a beginner, I would like something that's easy to handle. What GPU could replace the 280x.

A GTX960 / GTX970 would be the Nvidia equivalent, despite the 970 outperforming it.

4gb 960 is closest but slightly under the quality of 280x

the 280x is inbetween the 960 and 970.

 

The best upgrade would be a 290X simply due to the ridiculous price drop atm, If you can find a Sapphire 290X TriX OC/Nitro/Toxic or a MSI Lightning version, then you will have a beast of a GPU for a "nice price".
