So I'm planning on getting myself a beastly gaming rig sometime this fall (aiming for when Fallout 4 releases) and I'd like to future proof it for as long as possible.. Could anyone link me to information regarding Intel and AMDs possible future CPUs if there's anything available. I tried Googling it but apparently I'm looking up the wrong keywords.

intel is the real winner in the CPU apartment and NVIDIA in grafics card, AMD are strugeling to release competetiv producs but the fury might change that so look out for NVIDIA price drops after the Fury is released. Intel are sttong on the market with ther I3 I5 and I7 processors the I7 5960x being the top one of enthusiast but also covering all other bases with prosesscor like the I5 4460 wich is a quadcore thats quite afordable. right now just wait and see before building a PC or upgrading, theres a posible NVIDIA price drop on the way and Intel are releasing there new Skylake line of processors, hopfully this was soem information you found usefull in some sort of way, else i just wasted 5mins of my life wrighting this

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Ive always been a Intel and Nvidia Fan Boy but i have to admit the Fury has got me really excited about where they can go with it!

As far as future-proofing, you can buy the latest hardware but you cant always plan on whats going to happen or what new is going to come out~ 

I guess you could future proof for about a year- two and still stay competitive but not too long after that.

At this point in time I think its a bad idea to build a system with all the new hardware on the horizon.

I mean obviously if you've got nothing then sure, build yourself a Haswell setup and enjoy the next couple years in bliss. But if you can wait to see the Zen and Skylake throwdown then I think that would be best now.

Obviously this is my own take on how things are right now, the choice is yours. Keep in mind an i5 4690K paired with a GTX 970 or 980 is one hell of a good setup, even for future use.

This also applies to graphics right now as well. There's a lot of flux with Maxwell and now Fiji. Plus Pascal on the way with its grandiose promises. Its going to be a bizarre couple years.

Fallout 4 will not be that demanding (no Bethesda game is right off the bat). But modded Fallout 4 will be a monster for sure.

 

Id say wait, buy an Intel i5 or i7 Skylake CPU, then a AMD Fury or Fury X GPU. That will probably be THE strongest combo avaliable to you within the release of Fallout 4 (which is rumored to be october). Skylake is supposed to hit in August. AMDs Fury and FuryX launches in TWO DAYS.

As of right now, my current rig could most likely handle Fallout 4 set to max, I just wanted to see what was on the horizon so I could plan my build and start saving. I've heard a few things about Intel Skylake but not much about AMD's Zen and I'm completely in the dark about Fury / Fury X .. is anyone able to link a website for it? 

 

I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy as I've flip-flopped from AMD to Intel and back to AMD ... though I've stuck with Nvidia GPUs the entire time. So I'm keeping an open mind when it comes to my next rig.

AMD has been shitting on their CPUs for the past 5 years. With Intel Skylake coming soon, Intel will have the upperhand.
