What is the best remote desktop software?

Lets say you put your PC in the basement and you have a small PC upstairs. What would be the best software to use that powerful Basement PC for gaming, browsing and other daily task over LAN? And it shouldn't cost alot. (not $$$ enterprise stuff)

 

Systems are running Windows 8 (10 when it comes out)

Teamviewer is pretty decent.

 

You could use the built in remote desktop stuff with windows.

I use teamviewer, sooo easy to use.

How about Remote Desktop for general tasks. DLNA for Movies. And for gaming, nVidia Game Stream or Steam Streaming.

Meh, only remote desktop software I've used is Splashtop. It's pretty decent.

team-viewer can use LAN only if im not mistaken. 

 

You can allow teamviewer to accept LAN connections yes. You can even force it to only allow LAN.

What I like about teamviewer is that it's free for personal use, and it works good on phones/tablets aswell :D
