If you own these parts and they are working, you have a nice gaming system.

If you are contemplating buying some or all of these parts, you may want to consider some alternatives. Recommendations could be made if appropriate data is supplied.

Stick to your original, drop a few more for the 4790K... it will be worth it, eventually.  Skylake is dropping in August.

if you have the 4770, its almost useless to have an expensive z97 mobo, if you want all of the features of the mobo get a processor with a K on the end

Case: NZXT S340 || CPU: i7 4790k || Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO || GPU: GTX 770 || Mobo: Z97 PC Mate || Storage: 240GB Sandisk Extreme Pro || RAM: 4x4GB 1333mHz

WHY would you suggest 2 960s? The 2gb of VRAM for 1440p and the stuttering from sli are horrible...

- Comparative Build -

$985, ready for a second GTX 970.

I went with the i5 to save a bit, because you won't need the i7 for gaming, watching videos or schoolwork.  I went with 8GB of RAM for the same reasons as the i5.

Just pick a case:

@DatSpeed

It's common practice here not to SLI GTX 960's, you are right on.

yeah had that in mind the whole time

Even 970's, when buying two at the same time, should give way to the 980Ti instead.

Stutter can be prevented with G-Sync if you configure it yourself. Honestly, the 960 SLI is just for looks, not for serious usage.  :P

Here's a more serious parts list substituting the 960s for a 980.

  1. STILL BAD, get the 970 or 980 Ti! Not the 980 or Titan X
  2. Who buys for looks only? Performance first then looks or BOTH together

Doesn't he have the build already? Thats what I thought from reading it since he is asking if it is good.
