Did my psu fry it ? AMD video driver crashing

Hi,

I had the mains in my house redone today, they where quite sloppy doing so,

They killed the fridge by pumping 380v into the 220 line, and I'm worried my pc bit the dust as well :

 

Every time I startup the pc, the "amd display driver" crashes, and recovers. After recovery the card is pinned at 100% usage, and that makes it noisy and makes games ( and especially alt+tab's ) run slower.

CS:GO now takes 10+ seconds to alt + tab whereas before it took 1 maybe 2.

 

The worst part is I'm supposed to sell this card monday, but I don't want to send a broken card to the guy .

 

 

EDIT: PSU seems to be dead, gpu, mobo and cpu are fine.

I totally agree. If you can prove that it's their fault, then they should be required by U.S. law (assuming you live in the U.S.) to pay for the damages. As for the guy that you're selling it to, you may have to put on a slight delay for him.

I just don't know how to make them pay for the pc, especially since it might not have been them, and it's not completely dead ( although my 840 evo's seem slower ) . ( and it's composed of a bunch of ebay parts )

 

Also, I was wondering but last night there was a windows update . Could this have caused these kinds of problems ?

The electric company where I live doesn't care... We've had a power supply in a prebuilt shoot sparks onto our carpet from the psu and begin burning the internals. Then a different time we had a power brick for a laptop light on fire and kill the laptop too.

But they didn't kill it by they're own idiocy,

the guy was installing grounds and pumped 380V into the 220v lines .

And they acknowledged the killing of the fridge .

Basically does anybody know if my RM 1000w would have protected my R9 290, and can I get some "yes" on the "did it damage my gpu"

@Mihemine , did you try clearing CMOS ? I had abrupt blackouts , and if the drivers / BIOS went whacky , a CMOS clear usually fixed , along with driver reinstallation ..

Reinstall is slow man, I need to study for exams.

 

Also, I went to the coffee machine and it's dead, alongside the radio.

 

EDIT: clear CMOS and changing bios on the R9 290 seems to have fixed/helped it.

Not windows, just the drivers. It should only take 10 minutes or so. Unfortunately I can't guarantee you the card is dead without trying the standard diagnostics, meaning a reinstall of the driver, trying it on a different psu and a different computer. By the way, while your psu should be able to take overvolting, that doesn't mean it's safe to keep using a potentially damaged power supply. I'd get a new one asap and maybe get the technicians to pay for it.

Crashes seem to just result in a black screen and then be fine,

 

100% happened before, not anymore, swapped gpu's with my bro and they both seem fine.

then it's probably just your PSU that took the equivalent of a bullet to the leg and is desperately trying to not die. replace asap.
