4960x Cpu..

I already Have a 3970x processor ASUS X79 P9X79 PRO board.. I was thinking about upgrading to the 4960x Chip.. is it worth it or no.

Should I just upgrade the Board, CPU and RAM..

Only reason was Im running my PCI-E running at 2.0 not 3.0 as 3970x supports only 2.0 and 4960x supports 3.0 PCI-E.

 

I have the EVGA TITAN X SUPERCLOCKED  SLI..

Not worth it. PCI-E 2.0 Does NOT effect GPU performance in CONSUMER tasks.

Nope. Graphics cards have yet to even reach 2.0 x16 limits, and those are the most bandwidth-hungry add-in cards you can get. You're totally fine. I run a 2600K and that thing is still insanefast.

Every once in a while, all PC Enthusiasts get an itch, that only a PC upgrading can scratch.

But MAN!

You are running a 3970X, 64GB 2400MHz  ram, and a insanely good and feature packed MB.

sorry to tell you this, but you are set for years.

 

But if you got money to waste go buy a new case and maybe some sleeved PSU cables or something. Will be like an entirely new machine

It won't at all.

If you are very lucky you might get 1-5% increase in fps going up to PCI-E 3.0 (don't quote me on that)

So the answer is a pretty solid no.

IMO save for a 5960X new X99 mobo and some DDR4 but it wont be a massive upgrade from what you have

I Can only reccommend ethier a 8/8+ Core Xeon or 5960X as a worthy upgrade, that 3960X will be good for an age yet (as it should be ._. 1000$ of CPU yo)

I was given the option as one came into my possession as well as a few other CPU's and I kept my 3970X.

Apart from the new Extreme 5960X with its 8 cores the Extreme series CPU's are a waste of money anyway. I would have gone 3930K or 4930K.

The X99 platform is expected to get a new CPU refresh during Q2 of 2016 so investing in it might not be such a bad idea.

There's not really a huge difference between them plus I got a higher resale value from it being brand new.
