I recommend the Asus Strix 970, because it has the 0DB mode straight out of the box, and you don't need to mess with any settings to get 0DB to work

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

The Gigabyte is the best 970. Quiet, cooler, higher clock, better OC'ing (you might someday ;]) etc etc. If not the Gigabyte the MSI for sure.

I bought the MSI GTX 970 a few days ago and literally installed it into my PC about 6 hours ago... and so far I love it. It looks bad ass and is very silent... the fans dont turn on unless the card comes under a heavy load, which means no sound coming from the card at all until you start playing games.

The MSI is my obviously bias choice.

I would suggest anything that lacks a reference cooler. Those are the stock coolers that you see when a graphics card company introduces a new card. Basically anything with a fancy looking dual or triple fan will do the trick. I have the

MSI GTX 970 4GD5T

one step below the Gaming 970. My fans are white and it look almost identical to the gaming card.

Mine is the white one. I think MSI made this GTX 970 to complement the Krait edition of their Intel based motherboard series.

The highest temp that I have seen while gaming has been 65C. There is no coil whine on this card and the fans run at up to 94%. I have them set to 100% over 60C. The typical temps are 62C-64C. I have my PC in the basement in an central air conditioned room.

In Unigine the highest temp after 30 minutes in a loop was 67C.

I got a Unigine score of

127.7 fps average

Score 3092

38.8 fps minimum

245.2 fps maximum

most silent is asus but it has poor vrm cooling so i woad recommend evga or msi since they are the best (personal opinion)

well the strix and the msi card have the same vrm cooling sooooo ya.... but the strix does have better mem cooling cause all the chips are on the front of the card where the fans are while the msi card have some of the mem chips on the back of the card so it doesn't get any air besides your case airflow

Until the coil whine starts

Ive asked a lot of people who bought a strix 970 and ive only had a couple people tell me they got coil whine

it seemed to be much more common early when the 970 was released...

Until the coil whine starts

all 970 have a chance at coil whine it doesn't matter what brand. Although I've heard a lot of stories about evga cards having it.

My strix was fine for about 5 months but now It has a slight whine sometimes but not all the time. But it's very slight and I can only hear it because my pc is about a foot away and I can't hear it while gaming and stuff.

Yea but who has heard of a G1 gaming having coil whine, and also what's the overclocking potential of a strix, nothing!
