Watch it in IMAX 3D, it's one of the few movies worth seeing it in that format because the visuals are just stunning

  • 1 month later...

It was the hypest shit I've seen all year. It pisses me off that Grown Ups 2 did better than this in the box office.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! Yes, guilty as charged! :P

Yes, this is one of the thing I don't quite understand about Americans, or rather, their movie preference. GU2 is same old same old....potty jokes and such. PR is an original IP, an original idea, many believed it to be yet another Transformers, albeit on a larger scale, and simply ignored it, and they chose GU2 over this.....it boggles my mind when I think of it. As you can see from my avatar, I'm a big fan of the movie, just turn off the cerebral side of your mind and hop on for the ride, and what a ride it was! Epic and monstrous battles between the Jaegers and Kaiju duking it out, leveling city blocks and skyscrapers.....honestly, what is there NOT to like?! It did better in China than the US of A......this movie is the very definition of what a blockbuster movie should be, and yet Americans should gave it the cold shoulder for the most part.

This movie should be seen in the cinemas, preferably in IMAX 3D, it is EPIC! You can bet your bottom dollar I'd be buying the Collectors' Ed (or whatever edition/cut that is the most expensive.....money is no object when it comes to this movie! Yeah, I know, I come off sounding like a fanboy, perhaps I am....but I just want this movie to succeed and have a chance at a sequel, or prequel....I don't care, as long as there's a 2nd movie.

My friends described it was "White people Gundam" and "Godzilla Vs Transformers" haha.

It was a pretty awesome movie. I thought the story was good and the effects were done amazingly. You should definitely watch it.

Late response, but it was a really entertaining movie! It wasn't deep or the best movie in any field, but I saw it in Imax 3D and it was AMAZING!

From all the people I have spoken to they have said it's brilliant. However I never saw it since I know i'd find an issue with the special effects. It's just me. :(

Do you wear glasses? It sucks having to wear 3D glasses over real glasses. Luckily I don't have to wear them that often anymore, but when I did it was a massive pain in the ass.

Yep, the fights were on a massive scale, cgi was top notch, hearing GLADOS was a hoot. They actually got the same voice actress to do it with the same filters I believe. GDT obviously put in a lot of love into this and paid homage to the old monster movies like Godzilla, It came from beneath the sea and many others. From the comments here thus far, it seems those who caught it liked it. Yet, while it didn't flop in the US, it certainly underperformed.

I hope that when the DVD abd BR go on sale, many who had given it a pass at the cinemas would buy them. Though, in all honesty, it would have been more epic to watch it in the cinemas to capture the scale of the fights. I will be shifting back to my apartment next year and I think a 60" tv is in my future. Can't wait for the BR of PR! ;)

IMHO, I really liked it and thought it was awesome. Anyone who is into giant mech-type stuff would be a fan of Pacific Rim. The action and effects I found to be brilliant. As for 2D vs 3D, some people found the weather elements to be too in-your-face but I didn't mind it.

Its a good action movie but don't be surprised to see them bending the laws of physics and also other plot holes.

Yep, hence my saying, "just turn off the cerebral side of your mind".....anyway, when I watch a movie, it is a form of escapism.......don't need reality, or physics, to get in the way. :P  :D

Well, rejoice, because I'm pretty sure a sequel is in the works right now. I already have the BR on preorder on Amazon, so I'm super hyped to be getting that when it comes out.

There was one thing that disappointed me about the film: No Legendary Godzilla trailer >:C Would've been the perfect film to debut a trailer for the new G movie.

Edit: Also, boo because it doesn't look like we're getting a special collector's edition for this film at first. Heck, they could've at least given us a Steelbook or something. Guess we can always make our own with the action figures already available xD

From the response thus far, it seems just about all who'd seen like it, yet it could have done better.....especially in the US. Heck, I'd just gotten the novel to read, actually quite informative with more info about Kaiju (their names) and some background info in general.....going to read it tonight.

@ obsidian1200, sounds like you really like the movie as well, gonna wait for the BR to be released, hoping there'd be a Special or Collector's Ed version. I've never been so taken by a movie, this....this one just takes me back to the good old days when I was a young boy, I used to rush home after school to watch Ultraman, and caught most of the Godzilla movies (even the crap one done by Roland Emmerich, what a waste CGI), watched just about every monster movie I could find. Tremors, while not exactly a monster movie per se, was a real hoot, and fun as hell to watch. I have a feeling that when I have my copy of Pacific Rim, I'd be watching it........very, very often.
