1080p, worth going big or taken a second hand shot.

Carde

I will be honest I like playing around with my GPUs and I do not plan to switch up from 1080 for the time being. I do however want some new toys to play with.

Now my options are an SLI pair on 780ti EVGA classifieds or an 980ti for now seeing I currently run CF 7970 Lightning BE.

Both will roughly set me back the same, but which toys to get :) (ignoring the 970 btw have had one of those already so that be dull)

... Both are waaay overkill for 1080p 60Hz.

Or do you have a 144Hz screen/use DSR?

I would probably say 980 Ti, but not sure if that would be best for you.

100% no point running 1080p 70 on a 780ti or higher, it easily maxes out 1440p 60 for most games, if you are getting a GPU of that calibre, you should be getting a screen to match

Its like getting a Ferrari and then leaving it in the garage to drive a Ford fiesta around

I heard it often, but when you crank modern games they can make even high end cards still hurt on 1080p :)

Beside in the end it is just a toy

It's more like getting a Ferrari and putting shopping cart wheels on it.

Or get a Prius with monster truck wheels. That just doesn't make sense.

Not really, I play almost every game cranked to Ultra with 2x AA at 1440p 60 on my single 780ti!!!

Its night and day difference to 1080p......

Sure its a toy.. but why waste money on GPU power to push a mediocre display.. dont you want your toys to give you the best experience?

Actually considering witcher 3 can make a 980 whimper on 1080p......Yeah....

Lets be honest here..Noone needs a 980, or 980 ti for 1080p. it's a luxury. It's nice to not have to give a damn about how graphically intensive a game is when you set it to ultra, and just tell it to run. If you're on a budget I wouldn't recomend above a 780, but if you don't care, then go nuts.

Witcher 3 and maybe 3 or 4 other games are exceptions and not the norm, almost everything else is easy to crank up without a worry, a 980ti should EAT 1440p for 99% of games on the market without breaking a sweat

Agreed a 780 or 970 is 100% enough for 1080p, IMO if you can afford to get a 980ti, you can afford to get a new screen, you can get a 1440p screen for sub £300/$350

I agree with you. and actually the big problem with witcher 3 on a 980 isn't the GPU itself so much as nividea's power saving feature robbing the card of power under load.....yep, I'm a little upset at this.

lol, take a peak at the specs, not only do I get you, I went way beyond, and went nuts.....Actually if I can find a 42 inch 1440p ips panel I'll replace my current.

Anyhow I will wait for the AMD launch and likely get a nice reference 980ti, that way I can always put on a block and put it in the loop :)
