Just finish building PC, but can't detect monitor! help!

ImExpired

I just finished building my own PC,  with GTX 970 G1 graphic card. the LED light and the fan of graphic card is all working but I connect the "Graphic card" onto "monitor" with HDMI cable and the monitor did not detect it.

I did NOT install the graphic card software yet, could that be the reason?

or I should hook up monitor to the motherboard's VGA port to begin with?

I was about to suggest it, try out the VGA on your motherboard.

I had the same problem.

HDMI is finicky. If you have an hdtv around, keep the hdmi cable plugged into gpu, turn on your computer, and then plug it into the hdtv. The picture should be there.

Alternatively, if you have a dvi cable to hook up to a monitor from gpu, that should give you picture too.
