Need a quiet PSU

Starusiru-san

Hello guys,

My current PSU is really noisy and I'd like to buy a new one, so the main focus as stated in the topic is silence. Power usage anything between 550 and 650 W, efficiency higher or equal to 80+ Bronze, doesn't matter if it's modular or not. Can you recommend a few PSUs like that?

Shh, be quiet!

Srsly, be Quiets PSUs are awesome when it comes to noise. They use their new Silent Wings 3 fans, which you can't even buy separately yet.

Those are probably the quietest PSUs you can get.

be Quiet Straight Power 10 and Dark Power Pro are their newest PSUs. But they're a bit more expensive. I think the L8 series also uses their SW3 fans.

Other than that there are a ton of semi-passive PSUs where the fan doesn't even turn on before it reaches a certain temperature or power limit like a lot of Corsair PSUs. But once they turn on, they aren't exactly quiet.

i have a RM650 and i can say that is pretty darn quiet, the fan only starts when over 40% (or 50% i dont remember) and is quiet anyways. if you want complete silene under 100% load look up seasonic's fanless model and of course bequiet PSUs

You can go with an RM power supply, but it isn't a quality product compared to similarly priced alternatives

EVGA GS have Eco mode, G2 750/850/1200/1300 etc but not 1000W have Eco mode, XFX XTR have it

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

Unlike others here i have made some bad experiences with bequiet power supplies regarding silence. Those were the cheap models however, so basically don't get something cheap. :D

A semi-passive PSU would be perfeect for you. Like The EVGA Supernova G2 line.

who cares...

You could always go with a Rosewill Glacier. I have one and it is absolutely silent. They have both a 600W or a 700W model (incase you need more than 600W) and both are 80+ Bronze certified .

AMD FX-6300 3.5 Ghz | Arctic Freezer A11 CPU Cooler | (4x4GB) 16 GB Hyper X Fury DDR3 1866 Mhz | Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard | EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 | Rosewill Glacier 500W PSU | 120 GB Kingston SSD (Windows 7 Boot/Application Drive) | 250 GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD (Windows 10 Boot/Application Drive) | 1 TB Western Digital Blue (Storage Drive) | Bitfenix Neos | Windows 7 Pro 64-bit & Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

RM are not the only power supplies that have the eco fan feature, and they're overpriced for what you get.

Definitely take a look at the EVGA GS and XFX XTR, both of which have eco fan mode, so the fan doesn't spin up until a certain load and/or temperature range.
