i7/970 - i5/980

Hey! So I can fit an i5 4690k and a GTX 980 or I can fit an intel core i7 4790k with a GTX 970. Which is the better choice? I am kinda looking into doing some video editing. I won't be gaming at higher resolution that 1080p but the editing / recording / streaming part is still there...

i5 and the 980 is a better option mate.

i5's can video edit fine. Don't let anyone tell you they can't.

Go i7 4790k and R9 290X. It has higher compute performance. If you don't plan on overclocking, save some money and go with Xeon 1231 V3.

For pure gaming the i5/980 would be better, but not by much at 1080p. Since you are video editing and streaming, the i7/970 will be much better.

Heavy editing or not? If heavy then I'd suggest i7-4790K with GTX 970.

If not then i5-4690K with GTX 980, because i5-4690K is enough already for editing, heavy is still fine but performs worse than i7-4790K.

Get a Xeon E3, some cheap Z97 board that supports SLI like the Z97S SLI Krait and go with 980

That's not how any of this works...

It's a "Xeon" but it performs great in gaming.

Still good for gaming, it performs awesome.

the i5/980 combo is what I would go with as GPU's are what you'll find yourself upgrading the most. A modern i5 is still very good at rendering, the i7 is better but I find I can live with an i5.

I still wouldn't go Xeon however.... The iGPU might come in handy if you ever need to RMA your GPU.

Yes. Just thought about it, because I want the extra power of the i7, I don't really want to go for the xeon, because I think it excels at editing a bit more than I need, the i7 is a bit more balanced in my eyes. 

1 GTX 970 plays (MOST) titles at 1080p and a second one down the line will do so too but with pretty much all games. The thing is, I don't know if SLI is the better option here because I have heard that some games dont really work that well on SLI and need optimization so I was thinking that maybe 980 is better. 970 seems like a better deal though, If we are talking performance / cost ratio.

Yeah, some games run weird with SLI Graphics. It's about compatibility.

Hmm why not a 290 or 290X with that i7? =)

Unless you play games that are OpenGL based or so I do not see any reason besides PSU to not try 290s! =D
