For gaming, school, everyday stuff.

ehhh, you can get a way better build. First off:

Intel please

16 gigs is a little bit overkill

Overkill on the storage

8 gigs is fine and a 1TB HDD would be enough.

I know its a bit overkill but thats why is mentioned "Future Proof". I know nothing is future proof but this build might cover me for a while

True, but if you want "future proof" get a better GPU and CPU (I suggest a 970/980 and 4690K/4790K). If you really want future proof (1-3 years), you should go on the X99 platform, but X99 is expensive.

For gaming and school

Get a Z97 and a 4690k (the overclock will help you for the futurproof part)

Get a 2x4gb with a good frequency/CL ratio, 1866/CL8 is a great choice.

Remove the internal HDD and use external ones of smaller size for easier backup instead, nowdays the only storage you want in your computer are 512gb+ SSD's and NVMe compatible SSDs.

If you aim for futur proof you should get a 750w+ PSU, this way you can possibly SLI/Xfire

Remove windows 8.1 and get 10 alpha

My recommended build also comes with Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight, has a great looking case, the best GTX 970, a really high quality modular PSU, an excellent i5 CPU, and will be extremely easy to build in that case thanks to the modular PSU and the solid cable management in the S340. For $100 or so more you could upgrade to an unlocked i5-4690k and say an Asus Z97-A board, though I might upgrade to a little stronger PSU if you're overclocking both CPU and GPU.

You're better off buying what you need now and putting any extra money towards more frequent future upgrades instead of spending more now hoping that it would last longer.

How's this look instead? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JXL3XL

Dude when I saw *future proof* I thought man this will be some awesome x99 DDR4 double titanX build, not some low budget build for $1000.

Telle your bugdet and we'll make you as close as we can get to *future proof* build.

No offense

Is this PC "Future Proof", if not. Any suggestions?

PcPartPicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KsqtdC

Would personally do these things.

1) Switch to intel CPU. If you where doing video editing/rendering and needed a cheaper CPU. then that 8350 would be perfectly fine. but considering you will not be utilizing those 4 extra cores, they are made redundant. The extra cores will mean nothing to the lifespan of the chip in terms of "future proofness" as you need to focus on better/faster cores rather then more/worse cores. you will be essentally using a max of 4 cores on that 8350. I would personally recommened a 4690k.

2) Add a CPU Cooler. this is opitional. if you plan to do a bit of overclocking. get the 212 EVO and you can perform a mild overclock to get a boost in performance, as well as more life out of you're chip. however, if you have no interest in overclocking, just go with a 4690 and have those extra bucks on 1 of these 2 things.

3) SSD. A SSD will make you're computer run a whole lot faster. and it will be noticeable to you. I recommened cutting the 4TB Black to a 2TB and getting a 120 or 240gb SSD as you're boot drive. YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE.

4) If you cut the 4TB Black to a 2TB Black, but arent really interested in a SSD for now. could always put more money into the graphics card and get a 290 or 290x. :)

5) RAM. you do not need 16gb if you are just doing basic tasks/Gaming. Grab 8GB for now and if you need more RAM later, you can always purchase another 8GB later down the road. :) This cut put the money into either the SSD or Graphics Card. :)

Those are just my choices/suggestions. :D
