Core i3

Go to solution Solved by ChaseB,

Yes and wut yes they do?

They are the best budget processor on the market :o

They do, and some people don't recommend them because who the hell knows. Dumb? Ignorant? Pick what you want to believe.

Yes they do (at least the 4th gen ones do)

I recommend them often..

But it is such a small step up to i5 CPU's that the price range for those CPU's is very small

They do have hyper threading, but are not usually the best value for money, as for slightly more you can get an i5 with significantly better performance.

Fixed

Yes, they do, but people don't recommend it, because Minecraft is not compatible with i3 and runs only on i5 or i7.

Yea they have HT.

I always recomened i3's over the Pentium k since you don't need a z97 mobo and a third party CPU cooler

Becouse they want to get money with the i7s.

i have a I3 with hyperthreading in my laptop.

honestly, I3's are better than some quad core AMD chips!

So what is the difference to a G3258 and why are i5s not hyper threaded.

1. The G3258 is a dual core with no hyperthreading, with some good per core performance and OC'ing performance.

I would not recommend that and recommend against it actually.

2. Not sure.. I guess because i7's would not sell anymore?

There's probably some more reasonable reason..

The difference, is i3s have hyper threading, giving them a slight advantage in SOME situations. The G3258 has no hyper threading and an unlocked multiplier, allowing you to overclock. As well as the obvious clock speed differences that the i3 you are looking at and the clock speed of the g3258. The i7 basically is an i5 with hyper threading and a clock speed boost, so an i5 with hyper threading pretty much is an i7.

Yes, they do, but people don't recommend it, because Minecraft is not compatible with i3 and runs only on i5 or i7.

This is total falsehood. Minecraft will easily run on a Core 2 Duo and probably processors below this in terms of performance as well.

On Intels side recommend:

Stock - G3220 or i5-4460
OC - G3258 or i5-4690k

The difference in gaming performance is not big enough for me to recommend a i3 over the G3220/58.

Multithreaded applications is a whole other thing.

Do intel core i3s have hyperthreading. If so then why does nobody recommend them.

the breakdown for intel can be summed up as follows

I3: dual core with HT, no turbo

I5: dual core with HT for mobile, quad without HT for desktop, all with turbo, more cache

I7: dual core with HT or quad core with HT for mobile, 4+ for desktop with HT, Turbo and lots of cache

every i3 and i5 have 4 threads, regardless if they are dual cores or quad cores,i3 and i7 always has hyper threading

an hyperthreaded i5 is an i7 on the mainstream socket 1150. g3258 is a pentium,no hyperthreading.

i3 cpus are the best budget cpus so i recommend them often. what am i talking about, pair one with a gtx 970 and you have a preety high end gaming pc.just a few frames behind an i5.not noticeable

desktop i5 is not hyper threaded, because intel's price bracketing keeps more than 4 cores reserved for an i7, their performance line.

there do exist I5 processors that have hyper threading, mobile I5 is dual core with HT.

I5 is quad thread, regardless of core count.

not quite. I've done 4.5 ghz on an asus H87m-e, which is my default haswell micro ATX board for builds, and that was using the intel stock cooler.

it ran pretty toasty, but never went over 90C(don't remeber exact temps)

unfortunately no, but it'd sure be badass if there was.

so on the average 4th gen i3, even locked how much overclock can you do on an i3. Also is it worth it to get like an i3 4370 at 3.8 Ghz or overclock a G3258 to 4.7 Ghz

BCLK overclocking isn't usually a very good idea. I haven't tried it. the i3 would certainly perform better. if you were gaming exclusively, the G3258 would give more bang for the buck, but I'd rather have the i3 TBH

the difference is preety big couse with the pentium the fps and gpu usage is all over the place.frame drops and what not. however a pentium is good enough for a while for someone on a very tight budget because its very easy to upgrade to an i5
