I wanna get a new gpu, i was gonna buy this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Radeon-DirectCU-Graphics-GDDR5-Express/dp/B00HOW1Q46/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431381303&sr=8-2&keywords=asus+r9+290x

But apparently its got some major issues with drivers/overheating. So i think that im going to go with Nvidia this time.

What 970 should i get? im thinking to get the asus strix one.

also would it be alright if i have a amd cpu? fx 4170. Currently ive got a radeon 7700

I can confirm. The R9 290X that you mentioned in your original post will not overheat. My brother has the Asus R9 290 DCUII with the exact same cooler as that one, and it maxes out at 71C. Although if you insist on getting the GTX 970, the Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 is great.

It was reference-cooled R9 290/290X's that had cooling issues. And really, it would be more accurate to call them noise issues, as fan noise as a result of that heat was the real complaint. A third-party cooled R9 290X such as that one is not likely to have any such issues if put into a case with good airflow.

You have a non-reference card. This one doesn't overheat like AMD's OG design.

Plus if you are looking for a GTX 970, might I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GTX-970-Graphics-Express/dp/B00NOP536Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431445898&sr=8-1&keywords=MSI+gtx970
