ssd first

cause thats what you want your OS on

if you buy the HDD first then you need to reinstall all over when you get the SSD

also dont waste money on a WD black, a seagate barracuda is half the price and performs just as well

If you play lots of games, big games specifically, you should get the WD 1tb/Seagate Barracuda first and then get a 120gb down the road. Trust me, it doesn't take long before your SSD gets full -_-. If you need it for photos/docs, You could get the SSD first and use Google Drive/Onedrive to store media on.

If you can manage with the significantly less capacity, then get the SSD first.

Should I get an 120gb ssd 60 dollar for my build and get a hard drive later or should I get a 60 dollar 1tb WD Black and then get a ssd later?

because migrating from a large HDD to SSD+HDD is difficult if you are using more than 120gb of storage, I'd recommend getting the SSD first. adding a HDD is later is much easier because it is not your boot drive.

If this is a gaming build then an hdd first. GTA V is like 57 gigs, that is going to fill up that little ssd fast but I'm glad you can boot into windows really fast.....

Forgive me El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education...

I'd recommend saving up for a good deal on a 240GB/256GB SSD.  Depends on your usage, but 120GB SSDs may annoy the crap out of you if it's your only drive.  However, I'd recommend an SSD.  Once you go black...

Speaking of black,

Barracudas have a 2 year warranty while blacks have a 5 year warranty.  May be worth the price premium to some.

just because it has a longer warranty doesn't mean it actually lasts longer

it just means they will replace it for a longer time after you buy it

which makes sense when you pay double the price

Right.  For one, they're not double the price, at least not today.  Black vs. Barracuda, ~$50 vs. $70.  Secondly, while one can debate which drive is better or which will last longer, one has a manufacturer's guarantee that it will operate 3 years longer or will be replaced.  No, this doesn't mean that every black will outlast every barracuda, but it does guarantee that you'll have a functioning drive for at least 5 years vs. 2 years.  This fact plus the slightly better performance from the WD Black in many benchmarks makes it worth the premium to me, but that doesn't mean it will be for everyone.  Just sharing my opinion.

Hey RobDaBoss,

As the guys explained, you would want your OS and more demanding games on the SSD, but they do tend to run out of storage space pretty quickly. Games rely on storage only for their loading times so getting a HDD won't impact your gaming performance, only the loading times.
if you can manage with 120GB of space for everything (including your OS, updates, drivers, etc.) I would say go for the SSD because cloning/migrating your OS is not a good option and you would have to reintall everything one you get it after the HDD. :)
