I'm trying to overclock this cpu to 4.5GHz.

The AMD catalyst system did the test, and the slider was limited to 4500 MHz.

When I enable "Cpu overdrive" windows aero just refuses to run.

Running into CS:GO I get like 20-110 fps. really unstable, and laggy as old balls.

Tried with 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5 GHz. As soon as the overdrive is enabled, it's totally unplayable.

Any ideas?

that is definitely something wrong with the software.

Overclock by hand and don't use Catalyst for that.

Also what cpu cooler do you use and did you monitor the temps?

Temps are low. No problems there. Asus Silent Knight II.

I'll try through the bios then.

I went into the Asus Saberooth 990FX bios, couldn't figure out at ALL how to overclock it. Some voltages, but no frequency directly, which I could just put at 4500 MHz :-P Such a noob....

Knowing Asus there's probably a dedicated section somewhere. I'll see what I can find unless there's a ninja somewhere.

Go into advanced mode and it's under AI Tweaker

Okay, I overclocked the CPU to 4.5GHz.

NO noticable difference at all. Max 5 fps, in games where it was already running at like 55-60 fps.

Guess that's it for me :-D Back to 4GHz. Not worth it to push the chip, if it's gonna last me the newst 2-5 years anyway.

Terve!

I suggest you check the loads on the cores and the GPU first.

What does an overclocked CPU give you, if your poor old HD 5450 can't keep up with it?

What kind of GPU do you use?

Sayonara!

I use Radeon HD 6990. So no problem there. - GPU usage 70-90% on each
