Wiped HDD...computer no longer boots?

MeDownYou

I was working with a machine that I had installed windows 10 preview on, and decided I wanted to wipe the drive and put xp on it again instead.

So I plugged it into this pc and used diskpart to to unspecified "clean" the drive. Now it won't even load the bios. I tried taking out the Cmos chip and such and it worked into the bios once then never again. I'm confused at what happened here.

I have an oem xp install disk.

What do you mean you removed the CMOS chip? You mean the battery?

How long did you remove the battery for?

5ish minutes

When you started to have issues, did you try disconnecting the drive and starting up the system again?

Yes, I've tried that a few times now (the first the bios booted, but now it won't even boot into bios)

Do you recall making any other modifications to the system?

I can't tell where the failure is, but it sounds coincidental in regards to the hard drive wipe.

Double check all your connections.  Maybe a loose connection somewhere.

From my experience, the most likely failure is the power supply or ram sticks.   It might be worth swapping if you have another computer or spares.

I didn't make any other modifications, It runs the fans at full bore though but there isn't even a splash screen coming up.

The system should still POST even if the drive wasn't recognized.

My other computer recognizes the drive also, and my pc seems to be getting power so, HDD+PSU should be fine
