Hi, looking for a little advice please.

I am considering adding another Sapphire Vapor-X R9 290 Tri-xxx to my system, my concern is that the only usable slot would mean that the new card would back directly on to the existing one which would block off all three of its fans.

Is this going to be an issue, will the first card overheat because of this?

For reference:

Its a Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 5 board

NZXT H440 Case (Bottom PCI slot is out of the question, card would not fit because of SSDs and PSU cover)

Current car utilises first pci slot

Also, I do NOT at this stage want to consider water cooling the GPUs.

Any advice welcome please.

If you have enough case air flow I guess they won't overheat. But the fans have to work harder and will be (much) louder...

Actually depends on your room temp. But anyway, before I changed my case to Air 540, was using the H440 Razer case. I also using 2 x 290x Tri-X and they were so hot that I have to open the side panel in order for my computer to not BSOD or restart. But I am living in Singapore which is HOT like &^!%#@!^#*(!@^#

I would recommend moving the hard drive sleds out of the way of airflow. Other than that, it's difficult to keep them cool with a high ambient temperature in the room.

Looking at pictures of the board, it looks like you'll have a slot of space inbetween the cards, since it's a double slot card.

Thanks for the replies folks. I don't have a thermometer handy but room temperature is pretty average for a UK home. From what VolkA says, it might just be a bad idea to try it in the H440, its not known for its great airflow. (That said, as it stands now with a single 290 and a 4790K, I have not heat issues)

@Glenwing, they would definitely be right next to each other with not space. The first card obscures the slot beside it.

Here is a picture (excuse the dust)

Yes indeed thanks, I did this during the build actually.

Good thinking. I actually got a 2.5'' hdd instead of a 3.5" hdd so I could put it in one of the mounts over the power supply shroud and take out all of the regular drive sleds.
