My 24" Samsung Monitor died, So I wanted to get a new one, I found a Dell IPS monitor for £175. I was just about to order it and my dad says:

"Stop wasting your money on stuff you don't need, you've got a "19"

I said, "I need a bigger monitor because the 19 inch is just to small, I need a bigger screen for my applications"

I don't see why I'm wasting MY own money? I need it.

I work 3 days a week. This is getting to annoying.

MY own money?

----86'd----

With this out look on life, have you ever wondered what you would say if he decides to tell you "it was his sperms and he produces them daily"

You guys with your MINE MINE MINE, he is just advising you as a dad.

Why not show him you can generate money from the old monitor and then put the rest and show him how responsible and thrifty you can be, i bet that would make him have a different, a more supportive view of your choices in the future.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Yeah, there are a couple of ways to look at this.  First off, it is your dad's job to give you advice and steer you in the right direction.  He's not just an annoying old guy who stops you from doing what you want.  He's got many years of hard earned wisdom and you would do well to heed his words.  But that doesn't mean he is right all the time.  And yes, it's your money so do whatever you want, but you aren't doing yourself any good by being unwise with money.  If you can give him a rational explanation of why you think the new monitor is a worthwhile purchase, do what you think makes sense, but talk it over and maybe you'll see it's actually a bad idea.

I need a big monitor because I'm starting a YouTube channel, secondly, 19 " is not going to be enough, I need a it so I can see more of the page rather than everything being in a small screen where I need to keep scrolling down, Also I need to tab every time I'm doing my assignment work. Which doesn't help.

Also the monitor the monitor I'm currently using, is not mine. It's from my Dad workplace. So They could want to back. I'll be left without a Monitor.

I think you are 21 and your dad is paying your bills.  If you want that monitor then find a side job to earn extra money or offer to do some chores so he doesn't feel he is paying your way and you are just throwing your money away cuz you can. I used to live at home in between and I paid rent as well as groceries and saved up to move back out.  There always has to be compromise.  If you in fact don't care what your dad thinks or how he is helping you start your life then go ahead.  He isn't trying to stop you from buying it he is trying to tell you there are other things in your life that need attention.  Put 50 aside from each pay check so he knows that you are saving towards it instead of emptying your account over it.  I have a great system here and my monitor was 1000 but I didn't have the money  all at once to do it.  I saved for quite a while during my work season and then said it is ok.

A 1080p screen on a phone and on a 100inch projector will show exactly the same amount of content. Higher resolution will allow you to have more on screen

A 19 inch with a higher resolution (higher than 1080p) than a 24inch at 1080p has more "space"

So a 19" at 1440p would have more workspace

Besides that, you're 21.

it's running at 1600x900 Max resolution.

That's kinda besides the point. You said that you want more "workspace" therefore you would buy a larger monitor (larger than 19"). While a 24" monitor at the same resolution still has the same amount of workspace.

1080p 24" widescreen would be beneficial for me. I had a lot of "workspace" with my previous monitor.

Yeah that's the standard these days. I regretted buying a 1080 24" though, as I really want a 27" 1440p/4k monitor now.

Of course those can't be compared as they are in totally difference pricing brackets.

Behold, the kiddos emerge to give advice about parents.

If you're making money, buy what you want. Just don't spend it all. Tell your parents that you're not being dumb with your money - if you are spending money just to spend money outside of the monitor then you should reevaluate. Other than that I don't see a problem.
