i5 4690k question?

So I currently have an FX-4130 overclocked and its dieing.

This reminded on how parts don't last as long overclocked.

So how long will an i5 4690k last if i got it and overclocked it?

Depends, how hard will you overclock it? If you overclock it very hard then don't expect it to last very long.

Totally random number of years.

I am sorry for my english.

For the overclock, it should not affect the practical lifetime of the CPU. Yes, technically overclocking "reduces the lifespan," but provided temperatures and voltage are kept safe you'll probably want to upgrade it years before it will actually die.

Well this might be my only cpu for the next 3-4 years. So I don't know if it will die before then.

If you run at something sensible under proper cooling (Say 4.4GHz at less than 1.3v/1.25v) then it'll be good for a long while. If you're an idiot and push 4.8GHz on the stock cooler like I did, it'll degrade quick.

Don't be an idiot, and you'll have upgraded long before the chip craps out

Go 4.4ghz and try to keep below 1.3v and you're set for 3years I bet.

Keep in mind that cpu's, gpu's (electronic devices in general) can die at ANY given time.. even if not oc'd, it's electronics afterall. My GPU once died within 1week... not even overclocked.. so yeah, no one can tell you how long it will last if overclocked (or not even overclocked).

Again, provided temperatures and voltages are safe, there is no reason to think it would.

4.5 ghz below 1.3v and below 70C temps . you will have 5-7 years . of perfect working (normally CPUs start downclocking after 2 years of 24/7 overclocks but then you only need few more drops of 0.0xxx volts to make it running on that speed .
