I am looking into getting a car to work on. So I want something that needs some work. And I am interested in diesels.

So I found this. I was wondering if anyone has owed a rabbit like this and what they liked and disliked about it.

Should I get it?

What kind of work would need to be done to it?

That's one ugly car...

Now, you know what you can expect from these barbarians. They are a race of rabid BASTARDS that will fight us tooth and nail! But they don't know what they're up against. Cyrodiil, is CIVILIZATION! Cyrodiil, is ORDER! Cyrodiil is POWER! And out here, WE. ARE. CYRODIIL.

MkI Golf diesel.. Hmmm.. Wouldn't go fo a diesel that age myself, Low power, dirty, noisy.. Just very unrefined compared to more modern ones.

I would however go for a MkI Golf GTI Cabrio. White with red details... Awesomesauce.

top of my head for a diesel that age (Just the engine)

Possibly rings and liners though 145k isn't too bad yet (If it's genuine, though I doubt that), definitely a timing belt and water pump, heater plugs, filters (Basically a Major service).

Possibly looking at a new clutch-plate / release bearing as well.

If it's not been done you probably will need new bushings and bearings and possibly shocks on all 4 corners too.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Quote or @dzzope to get my attention..

If you want something to work on, I do not recommend diesels, far too finnicky and difficult to work on. If you aren't careful you can easily damage stuff or hurt yourself. An example:

The injectors in a diesel engine, are so well fitted, that if you hold them in your hand for a minute or two, they won't fit back in because of thermal expansion.

They're that freaking finnicky. And then, you've always got to worry about the absolute biggest nightmare imaginable, a runaway.

I enjoy a challenge though.

If you want a car thats name sounds like an item ladies use then fine by me. I would look for a golf petrol, maybe a mark 2 if possible. Diesels were hyped for years but they're actually causing more harm these days than petrols, plus when they go wrong you'll be paying through the roof to repair it. You'll want to check the rust on it, something that looks as used as that and as cared for as that is likely to have some build up of rust, especially round the sills and arches.

Yes but with diesels, the challenge has alot more risks. Not just breaking something in the engine, but destroying the engine completely, and possibly hurting you in the process.

That is unless it's a peterbilt.....

I've never seen a runaway diesel before, and diesel Cars are rather popular here.

I'm not fully sure about older ones but you can DIY swap injectors on a 10+ years old diesel car. It's a fairly popular mod for VWs.

I enjoy those old golfs and one with a diesel could be a little different.
