I use prime95 blend with extra memory and time set to 30min also use Intel BurnTest for about 100 runs after your done with prime95 and test prime for about 24 hours to ensure 24/7 stability.

People don't like Prime95 because it's "too stressful" since it stresses the FPU more than other stress tests. However in my opinion that just means it's the best stress test period. Just make sure you have adaptive voltage turned off or you'll end up generating more heat due to higher voltage than you intended. Prime95 is a super heavy artificial load that generates a shitload of heat, and it's definitely what I would go with.

I used Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility for a 4.4Ghz overclock on my 4770k and ran it for 8 hours with no stability issues.

I've never ran into stability problems on any games or Folding@Home since.

as long as you are using manual voltage, so that i can't change, you can use any program you like. if you leave your cpu in adaptive voltage or offset, then the board will just give it way too much voltage no matter what program you use too stress it.

Rig Specs:

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Asrock OC Formula 7970XTX Quadfire

There's so many reasons not to do that, and all of them can be found in the link I provided.

Yeah, your reason for not wanting a more demanding stress test is that you want a riskier OC because you don't think you'll ever fully use your computer with that kind of a load. I don't share that sentiment. Who knows what you'll be doing. I would much rather hit a more stable, safer lower OC than take that risk. Then again, I don't just game.

No... that's not it at all... crazy temperatures doesn't mean it's a better test for stability, that's not how this works at all.

Everyone at LTT uses Aida64 which is just as hot as x264 Stability Test V2, they are some of the coolest stress tests there are.

I'm certain the rigs used at LTT do A LOT more work than anything you ever do, they are constantly doing production.

So yea...
