Do you think a 290 clocked at 947Mhz will outperform a 280X clocked at 1.0Ghz?

No, but I have not seen a 290 clocked that low anyways.

Depends on the game. They are pretty* much head to head.

Most of the time the gtx 770 is stronger and if you look at theoretical statistics the 770 should also be stronger (which it is).

It's not a huge difference but there is a definite difference.

The 970 has 4 gb vram and not 3.5. Most people have not seen any issues with the 970 once vram goes past the 3.5 limit. Whilst others have.

This is incorrect ..

You should really read up on these things more.

The 770 is slightly faster than a 280x and the 280x is a (slight) bit faster than the gtx 960.

well the 770 is more expensive than any 280x you can find, it only has 2GB of vram and it has a marginally higher performance

Edit: Except if the 770 is refurb. If refurb, the 770 costs pretty much the same as a new 280x

After recently finding out that the 970 only has 3.5gb of non retarded video ram, I'd buy the 290x.

he's only playing at 1080p. Plus, a 970 would not pass the 3,5 GB on most games at ultra or very high at 1440p so pls keep putting it worse than it should be

I am not sure what you are saying, and "referb" is not a word.

Marginally higher performance = X% higher performance?

970 does have 4 gb vram its just sometimes on certain games it hits the 3.5 limit on other games it goes past the 3.5 limit. The other 500mb might be 1/7 speed of the other 3.5 gig vram but its STILL 500mb of vram in the end even if its really slow. So saying a 970 is only 3.5 its not really true. Your better off saying it has 4 gig vram but 500mb of that its not used in most cases.

Maybe you should read up on your info.

refurb is a diminutive for refurbished and "refurb" is an expression often used.

Marginally means that the difference is not really significative. In percentage, I would say it is a 2-3% difference in fps between a 770 and a 280x and that differs from game to game because some games perform better on the 280x than the 770

I have never heard, seen or read about "refurb" before. I don't think it's used as often as you think.

This is sort of what I wrote and it is what I meant.

Most online retailers and retailers in general use it to refer to used products that have been somewhat "renewed" or repaired. Its their fancy way of ssaying it is a used product

the 500mb sector is actually so retarded it shouldn't be mentioned it all. 1/7th the speed. Lets just say the 970 has 3.5gigs of ram.

Thank you for pointing that out. I totally did not know that.

I actually did know that and you pointing out the obvious to try and look smart makes you look really dumb.
