Is this 600W PSU enough ?

Unless you go 2 vid cards it is more then enough.  They always give extra overhead on what is actually needed just to be safe for the consumer.

Hello,

I'm upgrading a friend's rig and he has a Cooler Master Extreme Power 600W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171013). After the upgrade, he'll have the following specs :

- Asus M5A97 LE R2.0

- AMD FX 8320 @ stock

- Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3 1333 MHz CL9

- OCZ Vendetta 2 heatsink

- R9 280X (not decided which exact one)

- Antec Three hundred mini tower gaming case

- LG DVDR drive

- WD caviar black 640 GB HDD

and of course,

- Cooler Master Extreme Power 600W

According to http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp, a 598 W PSU is recommended (added plenty of fans, OC, ...) and I know these calculators tend to overestimate the wattage. However, to hook up the R9 280X, most of them require 1 6pin and 1 8pin, with some requiring 2 8pin. Now according to the newegg page, the PSU has 2 6pin so I'll need a 6pin to 8pin adapter, which is not a problem. However, the PSU doesn't have 1 rail but 2.

I'm wondering if this PSU will hold the flood gates.

Thoughts ?

Spoiler

way more than you need to power a single 280 even overclocked. ;)

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Not sure, AMD parts have high TDP.

But according to this PSU Calculator (http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp)

I put his parts and his PSU should be able to handle it (around 450W).
