IM on a dell Inspiron E1405, with a Intel Centrino Duo, and 1gb of ram.

 

Why is it not slow?

 

It can web browse fine!

Because it's probably running XP? Or you have low standards?

It is like a tiny bit slower than my gaming pc and our family Imac.

 

How would XP make it fast?

Windows XP

How would XP make it fast?

Just look at the requirements to run XP and then Vista. It's very lightweight in comparison. That usually does it.

It can web browse fine!

 

It IS slow. Browsing online requires nearly no resources. You could drop to 512MB RAM and still browse fine as long as you are not running background processes. 

 

Want to see slow on that system? Start installing things like antivirus which require at least 1GB of RAM to use. Those hogs will drain that thing dry.

It also performed well with Steam In home streaming, i played dirt 3 no problem, streaming from my gaming pc

What browser and version are you using? Modern browsers, particularly recent chrome versions, are quite frankly abusive of system resources. This was not the case when said resources were limited so older versions actually were a lot more efficient.

 

If I wasn't so used to chrome I'd probably hunt down an older version of Firefox (Chrome updates itself without your consent anyway)
