What do you need for an Application Developer device?

Just asking, because I don't know what the specifications are that I need for my new study.

I tried to ask by calling the school but the IT people are not working at this time. (though I thought they said you need 8 GB ram)

Would an ultrabook be perfectly acceptable?

and yes  I did make a thread a while ago about it too but didn't really ask the right question.

Do I need a laptop? Or can an ultrabook suffice easily?

Do you have any clue what programs you will be using?

Not really.

But I assume C++ and Java at least. (sort of got it from hints in the conversation)

What level? (MBO, HBO)

Because my brother does this study and his 6 year old ultrabook (which would be like an 500 euros laptop now) does the job just fine.

I think they recommended an i5, dedicated graphics and a 1TB 7200rpm HDD on his school too.

The most important is just having a good CPU, dedicated graphics don't matter a whole lot (it seems) and a HDD is fine.

If you want to do more research, for Java you're probably use NetBeans (a notepad application for Java) and Exlipse/Android Studio (Android dev obviously) and not sure about C++

Well MBO, to begin with.

I already almost finished a study on MBO on the same level (4) but I want to do one again.

I would really like an SSD because I have an external 750GB hdd for storage (WD passport)

Okay, I will try looking for one with a good CPU using tweakers.

I am looking for a laptop too with the same specs & reason as you :)

They recommended an i5 + 8gb ram but that's it. I want either 128gb ssd + 1tb hdd or 500gb ssd honestly.

The Asus zenbook NX500's look awesome... but they're so expensive..

Are you looking for 13'' 14'' or 15'' inch screen?

Yes. I'm starting my study this year in Groningen, HBO though.

I wonder if 256gb ssd is enough though, if it is.. I might even look into ultrabooks.

I really like the look of the macbooks but they're 1. too expensive and 2. I rather have windows over osx

Well I assume if you have an external HDD or something it isn't required to have so much storage.

Mac books.... Meh I don't really like them.
