They're both great companies. I'd just get the cheapest GPU/mobo, etc.

Whatever Fits your Style, Personally I think asus but its your choice, what are you mostly looking to do?

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 5 CPU: INTEL G4400 CASE: DIYPC-SOLO-T1-R

HDD: 160GB SEAGATE SSD: 128GB SAMSUNG PRO 850

 POWER SUPPLY: 550W ANTEC

I've used Msi and Gigabyte without any issues. Statements that Asus are top notch are slowly losing their meaning. Asus is kinda lowering their quality on low end boards and all 3 of the main mobo manufactures have great lowish end boards.

Of course if you are going to spend big bucks on a mobo, I'd go with Asus. They still have great high end stuff. All depends what you are in the market for.

Whichever has the features you need, go for it.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

For my own two cents, I'd go with Asus, largely because I've always had good luck with them. Other companies, including Gigabyte, I've had less luck with, but I have a pretty small sample size. That being said, if it wasn't for that, I would simply look at who has what features I want more and go there. There's a site called printfriendly.com which can turn anything into printable text; if you find two boards at Newegg you want to compare, send the link to printfriendly, then remove everything that's duplicated between both so you can see what's actually different. Then make your decision. (Or find another method to accomplish the same goal.)

Is the gaming 5 and the karit edition both reliable?

I had a A88X (AMD) Which was Called the A88X-G45 Gaming Motherboard and it was really reliable if you wanted to go that route... (It is a Gaming 5 Board)

Asus z97 gamer pro. I have one awesome audio chip. Red led on the audio. Cheaper than Asus formula hero.
