I have the same GPU and it does almost everything maxed with 60-100FPS. But with that CPU, it's going to be bottlenecked.

People who are saying the Phenom are too weak, it's not. I have the X6 version, and my test on GTA 5 was done here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/353771-amd-phenom-ii-x6-1075t-vs-overclocked-intel-pentium-g3258/

1080p high settings doesn't dip below 50FPS. At 720p you'll be perfectly fine but I still wouldn't expect ultra with MSAA on with a 7950.

yeah i know. so i'll probably be playing at 720p high settings so it will be smooth. just saying i already have a setup with a phenom but no graphics card, that's why i'm asking if a 7950 will do the job. would that be overkill for 720p high?

Yeah quite overkill. 7950 is faster then my 7870 GHz, which already gets great FPS on 1080p high. It's solid 60 unless you're driving through downtown at 100mph then it dips down in the mid-50s but still perfectly smooth. The 7950 is more powerful while 720p is less demanding.

My boyfriend is running GTAV on a Phenom x4 9850 at the stock clock of 2.5GHz, with only 4gb of ddr 2 and a Geforce GT630 2gb graphics card. And it is 100% playable, albeit with everything set to normal. It runs at a rock steady 30FPS, so he isn't complaining.
