There's a lack of budget balance here I think.

A $30 cooler for a $320 CPU and a $300 motherboard, a $130 (though it's definitely not worth that much) Raidmax case with a $1000 GPU.

Ouch.

Mobo is imo overkill, whats the purpose of the build, it's literally crazy

Also why so many placeholders??

how does the total cost $1500 yet you have a $1000 graphics card??

and you need a better cpu cooler like a water cooler H100i

and a better case

Because it isn't listed in PCPP yet..

PSU is complete overkill. I don't even run 1300w for my hex core SLI rig. Case is not to my taste but hey, it's just a case.

You should definitely be using water on that CPU IMO. Mind you if you're not into overclocking why bother.

Area 51 2014. Intel 5820k@ 4.4ghz. MSI X99.16gb Quad channel ram. AMD Fury X.Asus RAIDR.OCZ ARC 480gb SSD. Velociraptor 600gb. 2tb WD.

Up-gradable parts for later, I plan on getting a second titan X and liquid cooling eventually. Overclocking is not the goal currently.

The X61 is overpriced for what it offers, and WD Blacks are purportedly more reliable than Seagate's Barracuda. But not a bad list otherwise. (thumb up)

X61 is one of the best performing coolers and it's only a $120? Also, Barracudas and Blacks have pretty damn similar failure rates.

I have a few questions:

1. Why such an expensive motherboard?

2. Why 2 separate hard drives equaling 3TB instead of 1 3TB hard drive for so much less?

3. That case for this build?

4. Why do you need 1300 watts? That is EXTREMELY overkill.

5. Did you build on carpet? Please tell me that's like cement or something.

$120 is a lot for a cooler. I agree that it's one of the best, but it's overkill for the measly ~125W of an OCed 4790K (and OP is not OCing, so 88W). I'd rather run a degree or 3 warmer, save $60, and gain the acoustic advantage of air over AIO. If OP was running Haswell-E on the other hand, an X61 would be justified.  But different strokes for different folks.

And Backblaze's data shows a slight performance lead in WD's favor over Seagate. Very slight. But I'd still buy (and recommend) a Seagate.

An OC'd 4790k puts out a lot more than ~125W. ;)

Not based on Anandtech's measurements. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8227/devils-canyon-review-intel-core-i7-4790k-and-i5-4690k/2

But I'm open to other sources that say otherwise. If you have, please share, as my math could be wrong. I simply took the difference between the max OC system power and the stock system power and tacked the difference on to the published TDP of the 4790K.  :D
