Online game breaks down with overclocked PC's, need help avoiding it.

gilgameshflood
So I have been playing a game that uses unreal engine, called Smite.
Played hundreds of matches with no problem with the stable 4.4Ghz FX 8350 CPU.
But two days back, for the first time ever, my player moved faster than I'm used to and I also had problems activating certain in game items.
Thought they patched the game to change the game mechanics so I finished the match to only later get banned later. There was no email telling me why, so I asked them and they told I used speedhack "software".

Dead end, so I decided to ask the community for some illumination so this doesn't happen again with a fresh account. So I went to their reddit forum, where after my first post, I suspected(when I got called a bitch for having an overclocked CPU of course) that overclocking had something to do with it.
Then I managed to find in another post, to point me in a direction to actually understand in what way the problem was overclock related, so I don't end up "hacking" the game again with a fresh account. They showed me this post without taking it personally:

My question: For any of you guys who are knowledgeable in this unreal engine problem, all I want to know is that if I reset my BIOS to default and turn off turbo boost, and start playing with a fresh account, am I still likely to get this "speedhack" problem and get banned?
Because even without turbo boost, my motherboard increases my clock speed to some 4010Ghz. And I can't clock that down for unreal engine no matter what.

And for any fans, I like to make this clear: This Is the FIRST time I experienced the speed up. Not in any other matches I previously played so please don't curse me for it.
Plus in this match I could not possibly have known that this game is so delicate that my slight(stable) overclock could mess it up. So please don't bring out your pitchforks and torches on me yet.

Specs: FX 8350 4.4Ghz CPU
ASrock 990FX extreme9 motherboard
Nvidia 650TI zotac with latest Nvidia drivers(default memory and GPU clock)
windows 8.1

EDIT: Could this game have problem with cool n quiet too? I have that enabled.

From what I read this has been the case from a long time and you(one who overclocked) get blamed and banned for it. it's my fault if I didn't read the terms and conditions(wait it's not my fault if their programming is "special" than other games) before downloading the game. Let me check if its mentioned. :P

Nothing about overclocking is mentioned in T&C's, maybe implied somewhere but too lazy to read.

It detects overclocking as a speed hack and they consider it to be a speed hack.

Also :

For all people that want to overclock or are currently overclocking: be sure to check that your clock speed is listed correctly in Task Manager. After testing that a couple of times, for me if Task Manager displays your old clock speed but a program like CPU-Z displays your newer overclocked clock speed it means Windows has not reset some timer flag and at least games running on the Unreal Engine appear to be faster. Alternatively, check that the Smite menu animations are not faster than normal. This is noticeable if you deliberately check for it, but if you click the play button as soon as I do you might miss it. To fix your overclocking issues open a command prompt (as administrator) and use the command "bcdedit /set useplatformclock yes" and restart your PC. This is not advisable if you're not experiencing issues since it introduces some latency in timer requests, making some programs possibly run slower. According to HirezEverett this has hardly any noticeable effect on Smite and I have not noticed any slowdowns myself. Do note that overclocking is at your own risk and if something has messed up, you will be banned for it!

Game speeds up based on clock speed..was this thing made in 1997?  the only time I can recall I ran into this problem was trying to run GTA1/2 on a modern machine.

Wtf, that is hilariously stupid, and the game or engine devs are definitly to blame for this. Doesnt the game take the time and stuff from the server, anyways? It all sounds stupid.

YES!!! The clock speed in task manager IS different! Thank you!

So should I do the "bcdedit /set useplatformclock yes" fix? I wont have any inconvenience by "latency in timer requests"? Won't "latency in timer requests" affect the game too? Sorry I'm so uncertain :P

Btw, I never noticed any speed up in the menu, Used to look at it while chatting with clan to ask them to team up with me :(

RealTemp has an option to disable turbo boost while it's open.

Just launch RealTemp when playing SMITE :)

Tried it but still 4010Ghz sometimes.

That is lazy, cheap, inappropriate from the developers when the software itself is simply doing what its coded to do. It should be smites fault if the software and os are running fine otherwise

What terrible coding. How can this even a be a thing. Sorry to hear mate hopefully you ddint spend any cash on your account.

I was thinking about buying something by cash because I really enjoyed it since I started playing with clan members, but now I'll only do it if when they patch this and unban my original account.

Try it.

If it causes problems. just do : bcdedit /set useplatformclock no

what are the devs doing clockspeed increases game speed did these guys dev this game in 1990 when clockspeed affected speed of the game. This is some next level fuckuppery right here i have never seen dev these days fuck up their coding so bad that clockspeed affects the game .They have had to manually fuck up the unreal engine cause unreal engine prevents this in its coding atleast the last time i checked have been doing too much source modding to know this for sure.

I tried it, opened CMD as admin and I got "The operation completed successfully" after i entered the "bcdedit /set useplatformclock yes" code. Restarted PC and still task manager not recognising anything other than default(3.93Ghz) clock.

Also, it had the movement speed of another player in my team reduced. They messed up on their side for sure.
I think I'll play it on laptop from now on :|. My system still wont recognise my clock speed even after I disabled cool n quiet, turbo boost, the overclock. In task manager it says 3.93Ghz during full load and in CPUZ and CPUID it says 4011 to 4000 max load.
Hoping I wont get banned again after unlocking most players.
EDIT: Tried with new account with dell inspiron laptop(no overclock). after 4 practice matches, there was a moment when it sped up for a few seconds just like it did when I got banned the first time , could it be my internet?  . I'll just play dota2 :|

Thanks for helping all. Bye for now.
