First game I got on steam was Battlefield Bad Company 2. I think I had steam before this, but it had no games in it. Steam had a really good pre-order deal so I went with it. Before that, and even a few years after that, I always believed that if I own a game, I should also have the physical CD of the game. It is especially important with games like GTA 4 where you get a real physical poster sized map of the world that you can use to navigate. I played San Andreas on my PlayStation 2 and the map was really really handy.

 

But then I started to realize that steam had crazy sales (like the one right now) and felt that I am being foolish and paying full price for games that I could get for 50% or even 75% off on steam on certain occasions. So now I have been trying to get games on steam when I can.

first game i bought on steam was portal in 2011 first game i had on steam was cs but i bought that at when it was new at bestbuy before steam came out

The Orange Box was my first "game" that I got that required Steam. I bought the box and didn't know it required Steam. I don't remember what my first purchase through Steam was. It was either Portal 2 or Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
