Haven't seen issues like that for a while. Most cards stay cool enough so it isn't needed.

I'm used to older gpu's where after some time I would have to reflow them to get them working again or fix artefacts etc

 

Do newer gpu's break over time if they had no factory defect initially? even if its an amd reference cooler

I have came across some cases that newer AMD cards died (not even a year old)

But I've never seen Nvidia cards again with these problems.

Everything breaks over time I guess. Even with my older graphics cards I've never had artifacts. As long as you treat the product well and don't overheat it, it should last for many years to come. Nothing is guaranteed though :(
