So on my last topic http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/346914-helicopter-or-quadcopter-choose-one/, I asked which one you liked better. The majority of people said quadcopter obviously :P

But a common misconception was that quadcopters could do more stuff, do more acrobatics, and that helicopters broke easily.

One of the problems is that helicopters have been around for a long time, and there are plenty of crappy helicopter toys which cant even fly in wind and break easily.

Basically, a cheap quadcopter is much more controllable and stable than a cheap helicopter.

So here is a comparison of the two (high quality hobby-grade models, not toys) in flight:

Quad:

Heli:

I think this will highlight the difference between the two for people who haven't had experience with either one or both :)

Let me know what you think! Does this change your mind about quad>heli?

That Heli pilot is insane.

yeah the stuff you can do with a hobby grade helicopter is amazing

takes a lot of practice, but the end result is amazing

i wish i could impress all my friends by doing something like that :)

You can do way more aerobatics with a helicopter.

They are fucking terrifying though. I've been bit by my 250 size quad. I wouldn't go anywhere near a 500 sized heli

 deal with it

?????

how does it reverse direction with fixed pitch blades???

does it actually stop the motors and reverse direction? never seen a quad that can do that before...it must takes a shit ton of current to go from 100% to -100%

This quad does fully reverse the motors. There are quads that are not fixed pitch and use the same kinda thing that 3d helis use on each of the arms with a central motor, its pretty awesome how they do it with only one true motor and just servos to control what pitch the blades are in turn effecting the thrust

I am a happy wuffy

well thats the first time ive seen a quad that can do that :)

pretty impressive

the motor reversing is noticeably slower than variable pitch blades on the heli though
