290X or wait till the the 380x?

ericks_comp

Hi, guys. So the R9 380x is going to be  almost the same as the 290x right?

The 290x is on a good deal right now i think, Sapphire 100361-4L  for $314... you guys think the price will keep dropping ones the R9 300s are out? I'm really in no rush for a gpu... i had an MSI HD7950 that die.  :( and just when back to my 9400 GT. lol I don't do any gaming, and i'm just running a single 1080p...

I do use photoshop, premiere ones a month lol . and run a virtual box with linux mint on it... I just want a good GPU that will last me a good two or three years...

System Spec are.
AMD 8350 4.5 water cool.
16GB RAM , 250gb samsung 850 evo ssd...
Windows 10 build 10041.

I would say wait. Because AMD has something cooking. But if you want it now then go ahead and get the R9 290x

If your goal is to run 1080p 60fps, then get the R9 290X or a GTX 970, these cards are more than capable to do so!

Personally I think we won't see the AMD launches until 2-3 more months.

If the rumors end up being true (and that's by all mean still a bit if) then you can expect to be able to crossfire a 290x with a 380x (or whatever it ends up being the equivalent) just fine I think

Why would you buy a card like this if you're not going to use it to any of it's potential? Get something like a GT 740.

Wait it out, you'll regret it later if you don't and buy now. Then you see what you ''could of'' had.

The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.

Based on the leaked specs the 380x is a reprint of the 290x. And going off of your CPU it will bottleneck either one of those a good amount. I'd recommend a 280 for now and upgrade that CPU then go for the 380x.

Wait it is only around the corner, and if it sucks then get a cheap 290x when the prices drop.

We know nothing certain about the 300 series. If you need the card now, buy the card now, if not, waiting is never a bad choice.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

You really thing my CPU will bottleneck this GPUs?  I know its "old" but i didn't think about it...

That's true. but a the gt 740 is way older than the HD 7950 i had. and when i did play games or render a video on premiere it will lag it...

Well you said you don't do gaming and most of the work rendering a video is done on the CPU.

A 290 would be severely under utilized by your uses 99% of the time. I would wait for the 300 series to release if you're really in no rush, the 290 might go down in price then and would work for years along with being capable if you change your monitor for one with a larger resolution.
