Experiences with non-techies

Some one in my class said "Who even sits here and thinks about what's in a PC?" I lol'd inside.

I almost always just sit a visualize what goes on in a PC when you do something as simple a turn it on or start a web browser.

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

Only Abate, Axe, and Wobbles can save us.

Dudes, a friend of mine, who is a real legit techie, gave me a game from the '90s for Christmas.

Gmail.com is blocked at mine, but going to google and hitting gmail in the toolbar works fine. Unfortiantly doesn't work with youtube though.

Dude, the filter at my school is so strict. They blocked youtube, any flash game site, iHeartRadio.com, grooveshark, pandora, amazon, ebay, porn (of course), and of course, FORUMS!! That meant no OCN, LTT, no damn forums. Strangely, Gmail ain't blocked. Plus I bypass the filter to Youtube by putting https:// in front of youtube. Everything else, I use a program, Ultrasurf, on my flash drive. If I forget it, then I have to suffer.

A long time ago, during the era of 486's, when I had no idea about computers.

I would go to my technology class at school during lunch break and surf the web, a couple of guys I knew from my school were building an internet site. They kept saying .gif this and gif that until I had heard it enough and asked them why they were always talking about peanut butter..

Needless to say they almost pissed themselves, good times.

-My mom double clicks on everything (though this is pretty common from what I've heard)

-My sister always complains that her Nook Color is slow, but won't let me flash normal Android onto it

-My sister thinks if you open a program from the Start Menu it will start faster

-People thinking that just because they have a 60 hertz / 120 hertz monitor that they always get that fps

I used to be the tech support for whatever class I was in (elementary / middle school) but in high school I started only helping if I had a friend in the class that told the teacher I was good with computers.  Makes life a lot less annoying lol

edit: I did finally get all my family to move to chrome a while back (though I had to basically go through and remove every refererence everywhere of IE)

Maybe. My high school used to have a variety of programing languages to lean. But now we only have intro to computer programming. I'm taking it next year but it still sucks thats all we have access to.

You're lucky. When I was in grade 8, my highschool had an intro to programming course (available at grade 10) that I was planning to take. Next year, the only teacher for the class retired. The only remaining computer course was Business Computer Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and a very, very basic intro to html, but no css, and we only had notepad to work with)

Needless to say, we just played video games throughout that entire class and still got A's

As far as I know there is no teacher here that teaches the class. It's a room with mics and a tv and we have class over a video call.

Just got back from 3 hours with my Grandpa's laptop, his C drive was 92% fragmented, I had no idea such a thing was possible. He also fell for the fake phone call from "Microsoft" to install some random "totally not a virus" program onto his computer. His laptop's power options were also set to 0% screen brightness even when plugged in with a 5 min idle to power-off. Not too mention all the HP bloatware that came with the thing.

That one's gonna require a round two.

Yeah Yeah but CPU is over locks lemme just haven't. Yeah but my CPU is over clock able I just haven't.

eh?

ah, okay funnily enough if I see someone with an amd chip I usually dont expect them to overclock much, just a mild oc. however whenever i see someone with an intel they usually 1 over clock the hell out of it or 2 keep it stock which is a pet peeve, well done you saved 40 watts compared to a more powerful amd so what?

luckily I don't hear people refering to the net as "the wifi", I don't think I ever have. however I do know 1 person that used a hp ml110 server as a pc (now mine) and another who used a dell 530s as a server. again another peeve.

When I worked at a PC Store a guy brought his new laptop back claiming it was 'too fast'

My grandpa actually said he liked his computer to be nice and slow.

I tried explaining to him in Chinese about USB 3, and he thought that connected his wireless mouse to the USB 3 port on his laptop would make it faster.

I hate when people say iOS is better because it "just works". I had no problems with android (until I messed with developer setting and killed my tablet). I got a virus on my current mobile device (iPhone 4s) but I never did on android. The notification menu on iOS sucks, it's not even worth using, however the notification menu on android is awesome. Android takes around 20 min to set up vs 10 for iOS, but you regain all that time with better customizability eg: before iOS 7 it took 4x as long on iOS to change brightness.

Not to mention custom roms like CyanogenMod which I installed with just some slight difficulty and now have probably the best user experience you can get on android in my opinion :)

The following is a un-modified comment copied-and-pasted from a guide I sent my class on how to flip a PDF around. Bear in mind that it is a PDF.

OMG. JUST GO TO MICROSOFT PICTURE (IF YOU HAVE IT) AND JUST TURN IT 90 DEGREES.

Allow that to sink in a moment. Yes, go to Microsoft picture and flip a PDF around ninety degrees.

Does windows live photo gallery support PDF? Idk.....

By the way this is actually legit. Proof that kids today are just technologically incompetent yet can go on Facebook and Twitter.

All the teachers in my school open IE, click the search box (they're all still running IE 7 or 8) and search YouTube, then click it. It's so damn annoying.
