29 inch 1440p 21:9 ?

Hi there :)

I'm currently searching for a new monitor since i want some more screen real estate (currently on a 23'' 1080p). My initial thought was a regular 1440p 27'' (Asus PB278QR), but I can't get those ultrawides out of my mind. Multi-monitor is not an option, my desk is too small. Those 34'' would fit, however i fear they might be to big for my desk, I sit about an armlength away. There are 29'' ultrawides, but they are all 1080p in height, that would barely be an upgrade. Are there any 29'' ultrawides with 1440p? I spent some time reseaching but there's not clue about anything.

Background: I'd use it for office work (stundent --> papers, research etc.) and some gaming, mostly FPS and RPG, but I guess I'm not very sensible regarding that. (I'm currently running an LG Flatron IPS234 driven by a GTX 970, tearing is terrible, motion blur too, but well, works for me :D)

Regards

As far as I know, no 29" 21:9 monitors are 1080p. This is because the height of a 29" 21:9 monitor is about the same as a 23" 16:9 monitor. This means that the pixel density of a 1080p 29" 21:9 monitor would be about the same as your current 1080p 23" 16:9 monitor. Since we don't get 1440p screens in 23" or 24" size, it also makes sense that we don't get 1440p screens in the 29" ultrawide size.

Basically, a 29" 1080p ultrawide would still be an upgrade from your current monitor - in terms of more horizontal real estate - however I think you probably would be better served by a 27" 1440p.

Thanks for the insight, those comparisons were quite helpful. IMHO the 25% increase in width is not worth the money, but well, guess I will stick with the Asus then.

LG showed one off - the 29UM95, but I've heard nothing since. I'd really like one :(

Well, there is a release thread on it here and something like a curved predecessor on lg's website here, but they are still all 1080p ... It's a shame those 34'' ones are so damn expensive...

Well I had been hoping the 29" 1440p one would be a bit cheaper, but sadly not heard anything about it for over a year. Probably never see the light of day.
