Renting and buying from Google Play Movies only allows you to stream them; much like Netflix, but permanent access. You can't download them, to my knowledge.

Not 100% sure you can rent from iTunes, but buying allows you to download mp4s, as far as I'm aware.

I bought all my 200 movies from iTunes. Everything is prefect, I'll recommend them though I can't say anything about Google cause I haven't used them.

iTunes stuff will let you view it on your PC or any Apple device.

Google Play will let you do exactly the same.

iTunes sadly has the larger content base at present but Google is rapidly expanding

Google Play pisses me off. I can't watch shit bought there in 720p or up simply because Google said so.

Maybe you should check out VUDU. Its free to join and you can use bluray digital download codes. you can stream to multiple devices and down load to mobile. Most movies are available for purchase before release.

You can download them, but not in a format like mp4 or mkv. The google play movies app has its own way of downloading the files, but you can indeed do it.
