There's some really good animes with deep stories... And deep feels...

this is hard for me, i'm just about the only one i know how doesn't watch it really. i have watched van hellsing abridged and the dbz versions and i loved them but, there aren't many like that. it's hard for me to find one i like. i'm open to the idea just not my favorite thing to watch is how i like to put it.

I grew up with a couple of series like Dragonball and Saint Seiya, as a "grown up" the only one I have really gotten into was Fullmetal Alchemist (The original, not brotherhood)

I feel like there fucktons of bad anime, but it's so weird and unfamiliar that you sometimes don't even notice it.

Not my thing, but I never really started to dislike it until I was exposed to people who enjoy it. Pretty much the same reason why I dislike Japan, steampunk and DOTA2.

Getting into anime for me was hard. I always saw it as alien and to be honest, kind of freaky. Once I decided I wouldn't have an uninformed opinion anymore, I went looking for recommendations for something I would enjoy in certain genres I liked among western media.

 

The first three shows I watched were either extremely annoying, boring or cringeworthy so I ditched looking for recommendations altogether and did my own search on MAL using the advanced search. I filtered for the mystery genre, a release date of no older than 2006, and a rating over 8.

 

I also decided it was anime's last chance for me. What I ended up watching was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and once I started watching, I didn't leave the screen until I had watched both TV seasons and the movie, and that was when I was sold.

 

That was July last year, 9-10 months ago, and since then I've completed nearly 150 shows.

 

Anime. like all other mediums, has its share of garbage and its share of masterpieces.

I am quite neutral on the subject. Anime is just a medium like all others. There are good animes and there are bad animes.

 

Personally, I haven't watched much anime, but what I have watched have been good. Luckily my wife is a huge anime fan, so she can recommend what to watch.

I think it's ok. I've gotten sick of the stereotypical anime bullshit and finding a show that is more grounded in reality is difficult.

I have tried to watch and actually get into anime in the past, mainly to see what the fuss is about. However, there's one thing that I cant get over and that's the art style. Some of my friends have tried to show me other shows of anime and claiming the art style is completely different, but they're focussing on the backgrounds and the animations, something that I will admit can be gorgeous and really breathtaking, but in my opinion, they ruin it all with the character designs, and when I don't like the character designs, it makes it really hard for me to sit down and enjoy something when there's that huge issue in front of me.

well, I actually have a problem with the way that the eyes and the rest of the facial features have been designed. I get this odd impression that they have tried to go for a realistic design but failed at the same time. 

My main gripe is the eyes though.
