If you decide to reply to a post don't be a jerk and say "wow you are so stupid." Just be helpful. We want to attract people to the forums and we want people to come back and be an active user so don't repel people by being mean even if someone is asking a question that has an obvious answer. Just give an answer that could be helpful to the person asking a question.

Fair enough, I don't think most users could be this daft, but it is LinusTechTips we're talking about here.

People seem to think even the simplest computer related questions are common knowledge, which is where you'll often spot those condescending replies.

Great example:

"Can I run an Nvidia card with an AMD CPU?"

This is a perfectly legitimate question for someone who simply knows no better (completely fine, too), yet these are often the replies:

"Lol of course..."

"Why wouldnt you able to?"

"Yes..."

Just answer the OP's question with honesty and respect; no one is on an even playing field with regards to knowledge.

Everyone has to start somewhere, asking questions is the first stepping stone of getting an interest of something, if you treat someone like an idiot they're going to avoid coming to the community and pursuing the interest further. We want to embrace others with wisdom and possibly learn something too along the way.

It is very true, I was once a noob (like all of us at one point), and we only get to where we are by asking people that are experienced in the field. I am still new to the OC stuff, but only by talking to ppl that know what is going on that i can finally figure out what to do. LTT has taught me a lot about OC my CPU/GPU and I thank the community for helping a brother out. so lets encourage ppl to keep doing so, without making ppl feel "stupid" for asking, cause I feel i still ask "stupid" questions, but that is the only way i am going to keep learning.
